Historical objects in museums all over the world should be returned to their country of origin. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Introduction
It is not uncommon for museum visitors to see exhibits which were not locally made, while public opinion is divided over whether these objects should be sent back to their homelands. In my view, historical objects acquired through plunder or illegal means should indeed be returned, although this principle ought to be applied with practical flexibility rather than as an absolute rule.

❖ public opinion n.
❖ be divided over v.

Body paragraph 1
Admittedly, critics are justified in highlighting practical barriers, ranging from inadequate preservation capacity to unresolved legal ownership. Many backward countries are ill-equipped with cutting-edge preservation technologies, archeological research and relevant manpower, and a possible scenario is that those newly-arrived precious artifacts may end up being damaged, being a loss to all mankind. But this worry can be eliminated by international cooperation, in which museums in developed countries provide training, funding and technical support to their counterparts in the countries of origin, or arrange long-term loans and joint exhibitions instead of a one-off handover. Another major concern about returning cultural relics relates to legal disputes, as their ownership is difficult to be defined after years of circulation. However, this seemingly burdensome procedures should be seen as an opportunity for cross-boundary exchange of legislation on cultural protection, which, in turn, promotes clearer international conventions, more transparent provenance research and a fairer framework for settling future claims.

Body paragraph 2
In fact, countries who return the plundered or obtained illegally in previous wars or conquests are essentially correcting historic injustice—a gesture that reflects good will and respect for the sovereignty and cultural dignity of other nations. Without this belief in justice and equity, other cross-border conflicts, whether be illegal exploitation of natural resources or unlawful human trafficking, can and will never be settled in a rational manner. On top of the moral dimension, displaying these artifacts in the origin place eliminates distorted and twisted understanding of their contextual information and aesthetic values. For example, the Benin Bronzes, removed from present-day Nigeria by British troops in 1897, were long presented in Western museums as isolated "tribal art", whereas in Benin City they can be understood as royal records of history, ritual and craftsmanship within the palace culture that produced them. Visitors therefore gain a far more accurate picture of what these objects actually meant to the society that created them.
❖ conquests n.
❖ essentially adv.
❖ correcting v.

❖ tribal art n.
❖ ritual n.
❖ craftsmanship n.
❖ accurate picture n.
Conclusion
In conclusion, while concerns about preservation and legal complexity are real, they are problems to be solved through international collaboration rather than excuses for retaining cultural property. Returning looted or illegally obtained objects is both a matter of historical justice and a means of restoring the true meaning of cultural heritage, and it should be pursued wherever feasible.
