The highest realm in Chinese painting lies in the mastery of leaving blank spaces, particularly in ink wash painting. Black represents ink, white signifies paper—both are extremes of color. Ink can be divided into five shades, and white holds boundless meaning. When the brush touches the paper, leaving a certain degree of blank space, the absence conveys the essence of the image, creating an "unexpressed charm." This technique can evoke a dynamic and imaginative realm, full of endless enchantment.

Utilizing "Blank Space" as a medium to create a realm of emptiness is a technique aimed at exploring the spiritual essence of the universe and the existential realms of human life. The art of "leaving blank spaces" serves to accentuate the main theme, imbuing the artwork with a heightened sense of space. Simultaneously, the intentional use of "blank space" reflects the philosophical allure of traditional Chinese culture. "White" signifies "nothingness," embodying the concept of "wu wei" or "action without action," creating the effect of "achieving without doing." The subtle art of leaving blank spaces in Chinese ink wash painting elevates the notion of "creating something out of nothing" to a level of intellectual sophistication.
