What We Can Achieve Together

The Resilient Watershed Project Manager develops, manages and advances conservation programs, plans and methods for small to medium scale geographic areas. The Resilient Watershed Project Manager provides technical leadership and support to a business unit and plans and directs preserve management programs and stewardship.

The Resilient Watershed Project Manager addresses critical threats to natural systems and individual species, fosters cross-site learning among conservation community, and supplies conservation planning teams with site or landscape level information relevant to the planning process.

The Resilient Watershed Project Manager develops and implements conservation strategies and employs a full range of protection tools to acquire varying degrees of legal interest in land and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities.

The Resilient Watershed Project Manager coordinates community support, ensures the maintenance of preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and coordinates multiple projects, sets deadlines and manages completion. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

In this role, you will lead the planning, execution, and implementation of resilient watershed projects in the Yangtze River Delta region, while developing external communication materials such as images, text, and videos for public outreach. You’ll collaborate with government, corporations, and nonprofit partners to organize public engagement activities and contribute to TNC’s Resilient Watershed Strategy, Theory of Change (TOC), and achievement towards the 2030 goals. Additionally, you will participate in forums and meetings to influence policy by promoting project outcomes, case studies, and innovative ideas, while managing relationships with TNC’s internal teams and external stakeholders, including governments, research institutions, businesses, and nonprofits. What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience managing staff or volunteers.

  • Relationship building experience to work closely with a variety of partners, i.e., media, government officials, internal scientists.

  • Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).

  • Experience with communication via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

  • Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.

  • Experience in training.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.

  • Master degree in related fields such as ecology, biology, forestry, botany, environmental science, agriculture, landscape architecture, planning, and natural resource management.

  • 3-5 years’ experience in natural resource management, ecology, biology, forestry, botany, environmental science nature conservation, agriculture, ecological restoration, landscape architecture, or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability and willingness to apply science to decision-making and guide activities.

  • Possesses excellent interpersonal communication skills, with expertise in cross-cultural communication, business negotiation, public speaking, and formal writing.

  • Knowledge of ecological land management principles.

  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation.

  • Familiar with policies related to environmental protection, economic development, social governance, and rural development in the Yangtze River Delta region.

  • Proficient in using software such as Photoshop (PS), GIS, and CAD.
