This tradition stems from their communal dining etiquette, which dictates that bowls should not be shared. In the past, people would always carry a wooden bowl in their arms when they left home.

制作一只纯手工的藏式木碗往往需要一到两个月的时间。一只合格的木碗,盛开水不裂,摔到地上不破,不烫手、不冰手,体轻质固。对于珍爱的木碗,人们还会在底部镶嵌金边或银边。

Crafting a purely handmade Tibetan wooden bowl usually takes one to two months. A qualified wooden bowl should not crack when holding boiling water, should not break when dropped, should not burn the hands, nor feel too cold, and should be lightweight yet sturdy. For their cherished wooden bowls, people often inlay the bottom with gold or silver edges.
