“虽然我当时去了不少地方,但是每个地方的制度还是给了我很多的限制。在所有人都在注视着你的情况下,你无法在未经事先通知的情况下去随意探访一些状况。我只拍摄和记录那些朝鲜人引以为豪的东西,更确切地说的是朝鲜的党和政府引以为豪的东西,不过这些在我看来可能是完全是另外一番景象。 他们对于阅兵式和大型活动有令人难以想象的严格管理,试着想象一下,五万名儿童在不出任何差错情况下一齐作出相同的动作姿势。简直难以置信,就像是在做梦一样,甚至令人感到害怕。 我没有公开展示任何朝鲜人不想展示的东西,但是我很喜欢最终的作品,因为那些他们想要展示给世人的东西已然十分有趣。”

久保田博二, 日本当代摄影大师,1938年生于日本东京,是马格南图片社中唯一的日本摄影师。1961年当马格南成员访问日本期间,久保田博二有幸认识了René Burri,Burt Glinn和Elliott Erwitt。1962年从东京早稻田大学毕业后,他搬到了美国,定居在芝加哥。 1968年, 久保田博二 回到日本生活,1970年他的作品获得了日本讲谈社的出版文 化奖。
久保田拍摄了 1968 年的美国总统大选,1972年回归日本的琉球群岛,以及拍摄了 1975 年的西贡、1978 年的朝鲜、1979-85 年的中国和 1988-92 年的美国,最终都以书籍和展览的形式展示。久保田于 1980 年获得每日艺术奖,并于 1981 年获得日本写真协会年度奖。久保田的三部作品均获得了 1970 年第一届讲谈社出版文化奖:“黑人”和关于加尔各答以及琉球群岛的一系列摄影作品。
尽管成名于美国,但是作为东方人的久保田博二还是更擅长用镜头表现东方的静谧与庄严。1975年, 久保田博二 见证了越南西贡的沦陷,从这次开始他重新将注意力集中在亚洲。
从1979年开始到1985年,他在中国的拍摄旅途长达1000天,期间拍摄了20万张照片,最终在1985年完成了记录中国的摄影画册——《China》。 1978年至2012年,他还曾多次拍摄过朝鲜。 在他的镜头里朝鲜既有整齐划一的政治活动,又有普通人的场景记录,尽管不能否认,这些照片带有拍摄者先入为主的立场和角度,但也包含着久保田博二对普通人的尊重和敬意。
今天,世界格局不断被新的经济秩序打破,呈现出前所未有的波动和冲击,作为普通人的我们在这个纷乱的世界如何保持尊严地活着,在 久保田博二的作品里似乎可以找到一些身影和答案。
