风果然是柔的。这柔，并非少女纤手之柔，亦非绸缎滑过肌肤之柔，乃是老人叹息之柔，是久病者临终前呼吸之柔。它拂过树梢，树叶便显出几分黄意；掠过水面，水纹便皱起几道细痕。这风，不声不响地钻入领口、袖口，使人不觉打了个寒噤，却又说不出风究竟从何处来。
云也确是淡的。淡得如一抹青烟，如一层薄纱，如一段若有若无的记忆。它们排在空中，不紧不慢地游走，时而聚合，时而分散，全无定形。仰面望去，竟觉得那云后藏着什么，待要细看时，却又什么都没有了。秋日的阳光从云缝中漏下，照在脸上，不暖不冷，恰是一种微妙的温度，使人既不想躲避，也不愿追逐。
不说话，确也很美好。秋天原不是喧嚣的季节。蝉已噤声，蛙亦潜踪，连麻雀的啁啾都稀疏了许多。人们走在街上，彼此点头而过，嘴唇紧闭，目光低垂。偶尔有落叶擦着地面沙沙作响，反倒衬得四周更为寂静。在这静默中，思绪便如野马般奔腾起来，忽而想到少时某个秋日的游戏，忽而忆起亡故亲人的面容，忽而又悬揣起未来的种种可能。然而这些念头，终究无人诉说，也不必诉说。
秋天的水是清的。站在岸边，能看见水底的卵石和游动的小鱼。水清得几乎不像水，倒像是一块流动的玻璃。投一粒石子进去，那波纹便一圈圈荡开，将倒映在水中的云影、树影搅得支离破碎。但不多时，水面又复归平静，仿佛什么都未曾发生过。

秋雨是最寻常的。它不像春雨那般缠绵，也不似夏雨那样暴烈，只是不紧不慢地下着，有时一连几日也不停歇。雨丝细如牛毛，落在身上几乎感觉不到，但走上一段路，衣服却已湿透。秋雨中的世界变得模糊，远近的景物都蒙上了一层灰纱，连声音也被雨水吸收了大半，只余下屋檐滴水的声音，单调而固执地重复着。
秋天里，虫豸们纷纷寻找归宿。蚂蚁排着长队搬运粮食，蜘蛛在墙角加紧结网，蟋蟀则钻入更深的土缝中。它们似乎知道，寒冷的季节即将来临，必须在此之前做好准备。看着它们忙碌的样子，人也不免想起自己的"过冬之计"，然而想来想去，终究不过是日复一日地重复着同样的生活罢了。
一个转身，便走进了秋天。这转身，或许是某个清晨推开窗户的刹那，或许是某日傍晚散步时的回眸，又或许只是心念一动之间的恍惚。无论如何，秋天就这样来了，带着它特有的温柔与淡漠，寂静与清晰，来得不声不响，却又不可阻挡。
