据英国媒体报道，唐纳德·特朗普致信北约某盟国首相，信件内容令人不安，他竟声称争夺格陵兰岛是对自己未获诺贝尔和平奖的报复（astonishingly claimed Greenland is revenge for him not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize）。
特朗普于上周末宣布，鉴于英国及其他七个欧洲国家反对美国掌控格陵兰岛——这一地区隶属北约盟友丹麦，他将自下月起对这些国家的输美商品加征10%的关税。
此外，他在致挪威首相约纳斯·加尔·斯特勒的一封新信件中称，由于挪威去年未授予自己诺贝尔和平奖，他已不再热衷于“一心只考虑和平（purely of peace）”。
美国总统在信中写道：“尊敬的约纳斯：鉴于贵国因我阻止了至少8场战争却仍未授予我诺贝尔和平奖，我不再认为自己有义务一心只考虑和平。尽管和平始终是重中之重，但如今我可以优先考虑那些对美利坚合众国有益且恰当的事。”
他接着说道：“丹麦无力抵御俄罗斯或东大对这片土地的觊觎，况且他们凭什么拥有‘所有权’？既无书面文件佐证，不过是几百年前有船只在那里登陆过罢了，而我们美国的船只也曾到过那里。自北约成立以来，我为这个组织所做的贡献远超其他任何人，如今，北约也该为美国做点实事了。”
但英国首相基尔·斯塔默似乎无视特朗普的威胁，称就格陵兰岛问题对盟友发动关税战是“大错特错”的行为，且贸易战“不符合任何人的利益”。在唐宁街发表的紧急讲话中，这位英国首相表示，当前危机是“全国上下团结一致的时刻”。
这位首相表示：“伙伴关系绝不意味着放弃原则。正因如此，明确我们与谁并肩而立、秉持何种立场、自身利益之所在，至关重要。当下正是全国同心同德、携手共渡的时刻。”

Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.
Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.
