Sophie had always been fascinated by her grandmother’s old house on the outskirts of Cambridge. The creaky floors, the sprawling garden, and the endless attic filled with forgotten relics spoke of a life lived richly and fully.
One rainy afternoon, as Sophie rummaged through a box of old letters in the attic, she came across one addressed to her grandmother, Margaret, but never opened. The envelope was yellowed with age, sealed with wax, and bore the initials “T. H.”
Curiosity piqued, Sophie hesitated only briefly before carefully breaking the seal. The letter inside was written in an elegant hand, the ink slightly faded:
“My dearest Margaret,
There is something I must tell you, but time has stolen my courage. Meet me at the old oak by the riverbank. I will wait for you there. Always.

Thomas.”
Sophie’s heart raced. Who was Thomas? Why had the letter never been opened? She decided then and there that she had to uncover the story behind it.
