The stone circle was even more impressive up close. Each stone was etched with strange, ancient symbols that neither Oliver nor Emily could recognize. As the two friends walked among the stones, they noticed that the hum they’d heard earlier seemed to resonate within the circle, growing louder whenever they stood near certain stones.
Oliver touched one of the stones, feeling a slight vibration beneath his fingers. “It’s alive,” he whispered. Emily frowned. “That’s impossible… isn’t it?”
The air grew colder, and the wind began to swirl around them. Suddenly, the hum transformed into distinct whispers, like a chorus of voices speaking a language they didn’t understand. Emily grabbed Oliver’s arm. “Maybe we shouldn’t be here,” she said nervously.
Before they could leave, the largest stone began to glow faintly. A beam of light shot out from its center, illuminating the sky. Oliver and Emily froze, unsure whether to run or stay.
