The origin of paper cutting holds a legendary tale. According to legend, in the distant ancient era when Emperor Yao was in power, ferocious monsters terrorized and attacked the people. That year, a divine bird known as "Chongming" descended and valiantly battled the monsters, safeguarding the people.
但它每年才降临几次，百姓还是受侵扰，于是人们按照“重明”神鸟的形象雕刻，放在窗户上，怪兽看见就吓跑了，再也不敢来扰民。
However, it only appeared a few times each year, and the people continued to suffer from disturbances. So, inspired by the image of the "Chongming" divine bird, they began carving it and placing it in their windows. When the monsters saw this, they were frightened away and never dared to trouble the people again.
这个习惯逐渐演化成一种民间习俗，而这也正是窗花的由来。
This practice gradually evolved into a folk tradition and is the origin of window decorations known as paper cuttings.
