即将过去的夏天似乎比之前更加炎热，全国很多地方都出现极端高温天气。在如此高温的天气里，似乎让人会很"上火"。
对于中国人来说，“上火”一词很容易理解，可是，在翻译成英语，则有点难了。难道是译成“I'm on fire”?
on fire 是什么意思？
on fire的确有"着火"的意思，比如：
The house is on fire. 房子起火了！
但是on fire可不仅仅有“着火”的意思，它还可以表示“情绪饱满、热情高涨、高水平发挥”（If you say that someone is on fire, you mean they are very enthusiastic, excited, or passionate about something.），
比如：
He was on fire with this marvelous sight. 看到这一令人叹为观止的景象，他激动万分。
You guys were on fire in the last quarter. 你们最后一节真是打得太棒了。
“上火”用英语怎么说？
本来“上火”这个概念对许多外国友人来说已经很深奥了，可别说成“I'm on fire”让别人更摸不着头脑。
究竟怎么才能准确表达“上火”呢?
英语中有这样一个词：heatiness
n. a characteristic of certain foods or stimulants said to cause emotional or physical reactions associated with temper, fever, passion, excess, or true heat. （From Chinese culture and medicine.） 一种食物或刺激物的特性，据说能引起情绪或身体上的反应，与脾气、发烧、情绪、过量或热有关。（源自中医）
heatiness的形容词形式是heaty：
You're heaty. 你火大（上火）。
这个词其实算是中医术语，在此基础上我们还可以对外国友人解释一下这个中医概念：
"Shanghuo(heatiness)" is a unique concept in traditional Chinese medicine.
“上火”是传统中医中一个特有的概念。
Traditional Chinese medicine categorises food as 凉 lèung (“cooling”), 热气 yiht hei (“warming”) and neutral – and practitioners use the nature of the foods to balance the body’s yin and yang.
传统中医把食物分为凉性、热性和中性——医生们则用这些食物的特性平衡人体的阴阳。
TCM describes heaty foods as having the ability to warm and improve circulation, dispel cold and stimulate the body. When these foods are taken in excess (yang is greater than yin, your body will generate too much heat), heatiness is caused, resulting in symptoms such as fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, acne, excessive thirst, redness of the skin and irritability.
中医认为，热性食物具有保暖、促进血液循环、驱寒和激发身体的功能。当这些食物摄入过量（体内的阳压过阴时，你的身体会产生过多的热气），会导致“上火”的现象，引发发烧、喉咙痛、口腔溃疡、痤疮、极度口渴、皮肤发红和易怒等症状。
“酷热”英语怎么说？
当然，我们想要知道让我们上火的“酷热”天气要如何描述？ 英美国家的网友为我们提供了诸多“案例”：
因为太热，公交车自燃了……
London is getting so hot even the buses are on fire.
有网友表示：“我们也快要热成狗了。”
This dog is how we all feel.
英国网友热心提示：
It got a little warm at Oxford circus today.
Guys If you are travelling on the central line. Stand near the window for ventilation. Cuz you will pass out.
“如果你要坐中央线，真的，一定要站在通风的窗户边。因为你会热晕过去的。”
People who work on the central line route walking into the office tomorrow.
“那些工作地点在中央线沿线的人们明天进办公室可能是这个样子的。”
更有人夸张地说：“就连我房子里的苍蝇都要试图用电扇乘凉。”
尝试用宝宝湿巾贴在额头降降温，不过很快湿巾就热干了，并没有什么用……

heat有“热量”的意思，在这里指“高温”。kill有“杀死”的意思，在这里，kill me是使我难受的意思，而killing是kill的现在分词形式。
A：The heat is killing me !
我快被热死了！
B：It's not just hot. It's Africa hot !
不止是热，是像非洲一样热！
I'm boiling.
老外要形容天气热，其中一个招数就是把高温和“蒸煮的热”联系起来。比如boiling来源于boil，本意是水或其他液体沸腾。boil变成boiling，用来形容那种“滚烫的热”。
You must be boiling in that sweater.
你穿着那件毛衣一定很热吧。
She was running boiling hot water into the tub.
她正在将滚烫的热水放入浴缸中。

boiling = very hot极热的、炎热的，因此，I'm boiling =热死了，可以表达“热死宝宝了”。
It’s really hot. I’m boiling.
天太热了，我被热炸了。
Do you mind if I open the window? I'm boiling.
我开个窗你介意吗？我热死了。
It is burning hot.
和boiling异曲同工的，还有burning. burning是在燃烧的感觉，而天气热到快烧起来了，当然可以代表“热死宝宝啦”。
It is burning hot =天气超级热！
I am nearly melting!
melting ['mɛltɪŋ]融化的、熔化的，其动词是melt.天气热的时候，就会有种快被热到融化的感觉，这时可以用这句话来形容。
I am nearly melting =我简直热到快融化了。
It is stifling ! I can hardly breathe.
stifle ['staɪfl]有窒息的意思，因此可以用stifling来形容又热又闷的天气，而闷热也可以说是stifling heat。天气热到要窒息！我快不能呼吸了。可以用来表示“热死宝宝了”。
