当地时间5月5日，欧洲议会议员米克·华莱士在社交媒体发布了自己在议会的发言视频，细数中国脱贫攻坚、抗击疫情等方面的成果后，他感慨道：“中国正在建设各种基础设施和公共服务项目，而这些对我们来说只是梦想。”
China is building all kinds of infrastructure and public services projects that we could only dream about here.
“这个有着近6000年历史、拥有14亿人口的国家，在人类进步的几乎每个指标上都超过了全球北部国家，不侵略、不轰炸、不置任何国家于死地。”华莱士反问：我们是不是能从中学到点什么呢？”

随后，华莱士灵魂三问：“为什么我们要对中国咄咄逼人？为什么我们要侵犯而不选择合作呢？为什么我们不能尊重国家主权和坚持不干涉原则呢？”
Why are we choosing an aggressive position with China? Why are we not choosing cooperation instead of aggression? Why are we not respecting the principle of state sovereignty and non-interference?
他说：“我不禁感觉到我们正在被美国牵着鼻子走。他们将中国视为其金融主导权的威胁。”
I can't help feeling that we are being led along by the nose by the Americans. China is a threat to their financial supremacy.
