Text 1

M: Would you like to drop by the cinema and watch a movie with me?

W: Sorry, I already have plans. I'm taking a break from school to check out a new shop with a friend of mine. Maybe another day.

Text 2

W: Andy, I think there is something wrong with my bike. Could you take a look?

M: Hmm. The wheels are fine, and the chain is OK, but the brake seems to be a bit loose. That's dangerous. You'd better have it repaired as soon as possible.

Text 3

M: I was thinking we could take a picnic to the lake this afternoon. Do we have any food to take, or should we go to the store?

W: We have some bread and meat to make some sandwiches, but we could still stop at the store to buy some chips.

Text 4

M: This is your bed, and the upper one is mine.

W: Good.

M: There is a sheet and a blanket on each bed. They are so clean. Oh, here comes the train attendant.

Text 5

M: I don't know why I've been so sick. I've been very worried.

W: Don't worry. Do some running, see me in a week, and let me know if things change. I'll run some tests on you if you're still not feeling well.

Text 6

M: How do you like this brown dress? It looks great on you.

W: I think it's a bit too heavy. Since it's getting warmer at this time of the year, I want something light. What other kinds of material do you have?

M: We have silk and cotton dresses. A cotton dress is suitable in spring. We have many different kinds. What color would you like? I think yellow or green would be good choices for you.

W: I would like the white one.

Text 7

M: Hi. My name is Nick Harris. I have a reservation here tonight. I just want to check in.

W: Okay. Let me check. Well, here's your key. You're in Room 360.

M: What time is it for breakfast?

W: From 7:00 am to 9:30 am.

M: Where's the exercise room? I'd like to run a couple of miles before going to bed tonight.

W: It's on the second floor, and it's open from 3:00 pm till 10:00 pm tonight.

M: Do you have free WIFI and a fridge in the rooms?

W: We do provide free WIFI, but the fridge charges an additional ten dollars per night.

M: I thought something like that would be included in the price of the room.

W: Sorry, sir. The fridge is an extra.

Text 8

M: This meal you prepared is delicious, Mrs Parks. Please share the recipe with me so that I can make it in the future.

W: Thank you very much, Donald. I always enjoy cooking for my family, and I am very pleased that you will be my son-in-law soon.

M: I am going to help Mary cook dinner for our family every evening when we are married. I don't want her to have to be in the kitchen too much.

W: That's wonderful! Her father never helps me cook, but that is probably for the best. He can't even boil water!

M: I really enjoy cooking—probably more than Mary!

W: That's probably true, isn't it, Mary? You're more like your father in that way. You are both more comfortable outdoors. I've never had to cut the grass or take out the garbage!

M: Yes, we are the cooks in this group, Mrs Parks. But we know who to ask to make reservations for a campground!

Text 9

W: How's school going, Tom?

M: Just fine. I was finally admitted to graduate school(研究生院).

W: Great! Are you going to do a doctor's degree?

M: Yes. I'm going to do a doctorate in chemistry.

W: That sounds like a difficult field.

M: It is interesting to me.

W: You've got a degree in nuclear physics, haven't you?

M: Just a master's degree, actually. I think chemistry is a much better field for me. I've always preferred chemistry to physics.

W: What do you plan to do after you finish?

M: I haven't decided yet. I am thinking of going into medical research.

W: Well, you've got some years of hard study ahead of you.

M: That's right. What about you, Linda? I heard you will soon finish your bachelor's degree in literature.

W: That's right. I've always dreamed of being an excellent writer.

Text 10

W: Good evening, everyone. (17)Let's hear about Mr Brown's comment on the movie.

M: Hello, everyone. I thought Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth was on the whole a good film. (18)It is an excellent film for teachers to show their classes to explain global warming. It explains the facts very well, explains away the objections that people have been hearing about from the media, and is also pretty funny at times. (19)The film basically consists of a tour of Al Gore's climate change speeches around the world. It starts off with a few diagrams that many of you have probably seen already. This film is really for the general public who do not know all of this, and it is also for those who might have heard something about global warming here and there but want to see exactly how all of the facts fit together.

I think it is a good film, but it is not perfect. (20)The problems come in the short periods when the film tries to tell the story of Al Gore at the same time. I was watching this to find out about global warming, not to find out what Al Gore thought about losing his election.I would have respected Al Gore a bit more if he hadn't tried to make this a film about himself as well.
