1、Once or twice in the daytime, I thought I saw the Pico of Teneriffe, being the high top of the Mountain Teneriffe in the Canaries, and had a great mind to venture out in hopes of reaching thither; but having tried twice, I was forced in again by contrary winds, the sea also going too high for my little vessel; so I resolved to pursue my first design, and keep along the shore.
白天的时候，有一两次，我仿佛看到了加纳利群岛上的泰尼利夫山顶，便胆大起来，想冒险驶过去。但试了两次，都被逆风顶了回来，加之海上风浪滔天，我们的船小难以行驶。于是，我决心按原来的计划，沿海岸行驶。
2、When I came home from this journey, I contemplated with great pleasure the fruitfulness of that valley, and the pleasantness of the situation; the security from storms on that side of the water, and the wood, and concluded that I had pitched upon a place to fix my abode which was by far the worst part of the country. Upon the whole, I began to consider of removing my habitation, and to look out for a place equally safe as where I now was situate, if possible, in that pleasant, fruitful part of the island.
这次返家后，一想起山谷便心情舒畅，那里地势宜人，物产丰富，风景优美，不受暴雨侵袭，靠近溪流和森林，树木茂盛。我现在才发现，目前所居住之地，真是全岛最糟的地方。于是，我开始考虑迁移住所。打算在岛上物产丰饶、气候宜人的地方，找一个同我现在住所一样安全的场所安家。
3、No joy at a thing of so mean a nature was ever equal to mine, when I found I had made an earthen pot that would bear the fire; and I had hardly patience to stay till they were cold, before I set one upon the fire again, with some water in it, to boil me some meat, which it did admirably well; and with a piece of a kid, I made some very good broth, though I wanted oatmeal, and several other ingredients requisite to make it so good as I would have had it been.

4、The fear of being swallowed up alive made me that I never slept in quiet, and yet the apprehension of lying abroad without any fence was almost equal to it. But still, when I looked about, and saw how everything was put in order, how pleasantly concealed I was, and how safe from danger, it made me very loath to remove.
我唯恐被埋掉，总是彻夜难眠、心神不安，但一想到露宿旷野，四周没有什么遮掩，心里更是惶惑不已。我环顾四周，看到山洞里一切都安排得井井有条。我这个住处又隐蔽又安全，使我极不情愿搬家。
