“on easy street”是“康庄大道，生活富裕” 的意思，在九十多年前，一位美国作家在一本小说中写道：“He could walk up and down easy street.”意为“他可以在容易街上走来走去”，那么也就是说他可以生活得非常自如。渐渐地，人们把这位作家所写到的“up and down easy street”运用到日常生活中，后来又演变成“on easy street”。
