The Governance Podcast delves into topics related to President Xi Jinping and how government is practiced in China. Throughout this series, we'll be exploring the past, present and future of governance in China as it works toward meeting its development goals and finds its place in the global community.

This episode looks at how Xi defines the international order. “In the world, there is only one international system, the international system with the United Nations at its core. There is only one international order, the international order underpinned by international law. And there is only one set of rules, i.e. the basic norms governing international relations underpinned by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter,” President Xi said.

China has largely been a beneficiary of the UN-centered international system and has no intention of trying to replace it. But while it's strongly committed to upholding this order, China, along with many other nations, seeks to make amendments that would make it fairer. By pursuing these amendments, China hopes to promote greater balance, so that it better reflects the interests of all nations, particularly developing ones.
